Democratic Freedom party chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah has thanked the people and the leadership of Pakistan for observing February 5 as a day to express solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“After a prolonged struggle when India got independence from the British government, two countries came into being India and Pakistan. Kashmiri’s also got independence from the Dogra raj in 1947 but unfortunately India launched its illegal occupation in the valley”, Shah was quoted by the spokesman of having said.

“From 1947 we have been fighting against this illegal occupation. But among the international community only Pakistan is the only country who has advocated the cause of Kashmir and raised voice against the illegal occupation,” he said.
He said that on February 5 whole Pakistani nation tries to highlight the issue by holding demonstrations in the whole country.

“The Pakistan leaders whether they are in government or in opposition have always highlighted the issue of Kashmir. They have highlighted the freedom struggle of Kashmir both in Kashmir and at the international level,’ he said.

On this particular day in Pakistan seminars and symposiums are being organized for the Kashmiri people. “Pakistani ambassadors are highlighting the Kashmir cause in the foreign countries through their offices,” he added.

While hailing the support from Pakistan on economic, diplomatic and political levels, Shah said that it should remain consistently so till the Kashmir issue gets resolved.

According to party statement, DFP chairman is still under detention in the police station Zakura from yesterday when he was arrested on his way to offer Friday prayers.
