The killing of Fisheries Department guard Asadullah Kumhar sparked a massive protest in his native village Mundhal Devsar area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district while the family of the guard who was killed on Friday night after government forces laid a siege to Tchansar village demanded an impartial probe to bring his killers to justice.

Eyewitnesses told news agency CNS that a large number of people who participated in the funeral procession staged massive anti-Army and anti-government protest. They alleged that Asaudllah was killed by government forces.  “He was not killed in cross firing as is being claimed by the police, but he was targeted by the Army when they failed to neutralize the militants,” the protesters said.

Police said that the civilian was killed in cross firing, a claim refuted by family of the slain and the protesters.

The protesters along with the dead body assembled on Srinagar-Jammu highway and block the road for traffic at Vessu for more than two hours. The massive traffic Jam forced authorities to rushed to spot. Reports said that Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Showkat Ajaz Bhat along with a team of civil and police officials including District SP, Sridhar Patil pacified the protesters by declaring magisterial inquiry into the incident. The magisterial inquiry will be conducted by Assistant Commissioner Revenue Shahnawaz Ahmed. Deputy Commissioner also assured the protesters that victim’s family will also get the ex-gratia and a job under SRO 43. Thousands of people from different villages of Kulgam including Banghal, Behema, Pajan, Chandian, Chanderkot were part of the protest.Meanwhile,

Meanwhile, cordon was lifted on Saturday morning from the Tchancer and Chawalgam villages after militants successfully managed to fled from the area.
