The Congress Delegation led by JKPCC Chief and former minister G.A. Mir was again barred from visiting Batagund Dooru and meeting family of former Sarpanch Sajad Ahmad Malik, who was killed a day before yesterday. The spokesman said in a statement.

The spokesman said that earlier Mir along with senior Congress leaders were stopped at Jawahar Tunnel by the Police, but they managed to reach Umoo Verinag, where from they were not allowed to move towards Batagund, “even PCC Chief was not allowed to sit at his residence Umoo.”

JKPCC termed the government move as highly unfortunate and condemnable.“The Police authorities informed the delegation that there were clear directions from the government not to allow G.A. Mir to visit Batagund Verinag and offer condolences to bereaved family of Malik, which the police has claimed that the slain was killed after decamping with AK Rifle from police Station

“The Police authorities informed the delegation that there were clear directions from the government not to allow G.A. Mir to visit Batagund Verinag and offer condolences to bereaved family of Malik, which the police has claimed that the slain was killed after decamping with AK Rifle from police Station Dooru, thereby creating an impression that he was killed in a retaliatory action”, PCC statement said.

Condemning the government for putting curbs on the opposition, Mir described it as undemocratic, unethical and blamed the government for the killing of Sajad Ahmad Malik, who was under strenuous pressure to work for the ruling PDP. He said barring opposition from visiting Batagund amounts to granting impunity to killers. He said the unnecessary restrictions on our movement vindicates our claim regarding killing of former Sarpanch and Congress Party will continue to fight against innocent killings and barbarism, Mir added.

PCC Chief also condemned the suspected killing of Assadullah Kumar of Mandhole Qazigund yesterday and asked the government to initiate a probe into this killing, so that the culprits behind this incident of killing are identified for punishment. Mir blamed PDP-BJP Coalition for loss of lives and warned that killing of innocent people won’t be tolerated.
