Nayeem-KhanHurriyat Conference (g) Jammu province president and Jammu Kashmir National Front chairperson, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Tuesday said that “so-called” Village Defence Committees have been formed to “suppress” the Muslims of Jammu division and the “same have been busy in atrocities ever since their formation”.

“There are thousands of instances where notorious VDC members have committed atrocities on Muslims of Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Kishtwar, Baderwah and other areas,” Khan said in a party statement issued this evening. “VDCs are patronized on government level so whatever violations take place at the hands of its members is a handiwork of the government.”

Pertinently, a National Conference worker was killed by a VDC member in Rajouri a few days back.

Khan expressed concern over the “rights violations” committed by the VDC members and said, “unless these government sponsored terrorists are disarmed the violations would continue to take place.” “These VDCs have been formed to terrorize Muslims and their members are involved in murder, loot, plunder and every sort of crimes.”

He appealed the human rights organizations to take a strong note of the activities of VDC members and stress upon New Delhi to wind up these “terrorist committees”. “Hindu extremism in the garb of VDCs is a challenge faced by the people of the disputed region especially the Muslims of Pir Panchal and Chenab region.”
