SRINAGAR: A complete bandh was observed in Kishtwar on Thursday following the death of a 14-year-old girl from the Chatroo area, with people demanding justice and stringent action against those responsible for her death.
Shops and other business establishments remained closed as people expressed outrage over the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death and called for accountability in the case.
The minor, belonging to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community, died while being shifted from Kishtwar to a hospital in Doda, according to the information available.
The case has triggered allegations of repeated sexual abuse of the girl by a school teacher, followed by an alleged forced or attempted termination of pregnancy that reportedly led to a critical deterioration in her health.
Police have already taken action in connection with the case, while the incident has prompted demands for a thorough investigation and strict punishment for those found responsible.
The bandh reflected growing public anger over the death, with protesters seeking justice for the girl and stronger measures to ensure the safety and protection of children.
