SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district has secured first position among 100 districts across the country for its performance in improving irrigation infrastructure under the Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY).
Additional District Magistrate Pawan Kotwal and Chief Agriculture Officer Kushal Chandel received the Certificate of Excellence from Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan at a function held at the National Agricultural Science Complex, Pusa, New Delhi, on Monday to mark the completion of one year of the scheme.
Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Pankaj Kumar Sharma congratulated the district team, appreciating the efforts of the officials and departments involved in strengthening irrigation infrastructure.
The recognition acknowledges the district’s work towards improving water availability for agriculture and supporting sustainable farming practices. Better irrigation facilities can help farmers reduce their dependence on rainfall, improve water management and support agricultural productivity.
The district administration and the Agriculture Department are expected to continue efforts to expand irrigation facilities, promote efficient use of water resources and improve the livelihoods of farmers.
