At least nine students died and ten others are injured when a school bus of Moral High School Dialgam met with an accident near Kandiwari, Kokernag on Thursday afternoon. The bus carrying students back home lost its control and fell deep into a 250 ft gorge near Kandiwara.

A minibus bearing registration number JK03-6929 carrying students from Dialgam met with an accident near Kandiwara about 12 kms from Islamabad.

Those who died have been identified as Sumi daughter of Mohammad Akram, Muddasir Yousuf Bhat son of Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, Rafia Jan daughter of Abdul Rehman Malik, Dilshada Akhter daughter of Abdul Razzaq, Uzra Jan daughter of Mohammad Shameem, Arshi Jan daughter of Rafeeq Ahmad, Nowshera Nazir daughter of Nazir Ahmad, Yasir Ahmad son of Basharat all residents of Kandiwara Islamabad.

Those who were injured have been identified as Aaqib Ashraf son of Mohammad Ashraf Bhat resident of Kandiwara Kokernag, Ishtiyaq Ahmad Khan son of Mushtaq Ahmad resident of Kandiwara Kokernag, Nifta Jan daughter of Mohammad Shafi Bhat resident of Kandiwara Kokernag, Driver Nisar Ahmad Wani son of Abdul Salam Wani, Junaid Ahmad Bhat son of Manzoor Ahmad resident of Kandiwara Kokernag , Umer Malik son of Abdul Rehman Malik, Shakir Nazir son of Nazir Ahmad Mir resident of Bon  Kandiwara Kokernag, Yasir Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Hassan Bhat, Shaiqa Nina daughter of Nina Ahmad, Numan son of Mohammad rafiq, Veifta Jan daughter of Mohammad Shafi and Yaseen Ahmad son of Ghulam Hassan and Saiqa Nina daughter of Nina Ahmad.

Among the injured Aaqib Ashraf, Ishtiyaq Ahmad, Nifta Jan, and  Nisar Ahmad Wani were shifted to SKIMS Srinagar, Junaid Ahmad Bhat was shifted to SHMS, Shaiqa Ninaz, Numan, Veifta Jan  and Yaseen Ahmad were shifted to Sub District Hospital Islamabad while as Umer Malik and Shakir Nazir were shifted to Bone and Joints Hospital Srinagar.

As per a police statement SSP, Islamabad RK Jalla ASP Mohammed Zaid along with SHO Kokernag rushed to the spot to supervise the rescue operation. While as Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone Abdul Ghani Mir visited the Islamabad hospital to see the injured and directed the district police authorities to provide all possible help to the injured and their relatives.

However, the death of students has been deeply mourned by all all the leaders cutting across the party lines. The chief minister Omar Abdullah while expressing his grief has announced ex-gratia of Rs one lakh to victim families and Rs 10, 000 to injured.

  1. Kandiwara accident has shocked the whole kashmir/humanity. Whole valley is mourning the death of the lost children. Though all mortals must die sometime, but it the Govt to a great extent responsible for such accidents. Govt has failed till date in providing basic facilities to its people. All minsters & MLA’s are just befooling people.they are improving their accounts & pleasing their dogs.
