SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir  Police along with the Indian army on Thursday resumed the operation against militants believed to be trapped in the Gadole area of Kokernag in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

The Kashmir Police Zone on microblogging site X wrote, “In solemn tribute to the unwavering valor of Col Manpreet Singh,Major Ashish Dhonak & DSP Humayun Bhat who laid down their lives leading from the front during this ongoing operation. Our forces persist with unwavering resolve as they encircle 2 LET terrorists including Uzair Khan”.

Uzair Khan is a local LeT militant resident of Kokernag, reports said.

An Army colonel, a major, and a deputy superintendent of JK Police were killed in the ongoing gunfight with militants in the Kokernag area of Anantnag district on Wednesday.

The last rites of DSP Humayun Bhat were performed in Budgam on Wednesday evening.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and leaders from the political parties in Jammu and Kashmir condemned the Kokernag militant attack and extended condolences to the families of slain police officer and army men who lost their lives in the encounter.
