Terming the rigidness of Government of India over the setting up of the “composite townships” for the Kashmiri Pandits as “unjustified”, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (g) Wednesday cautioned that the “division of Kashmiris on religious lines and isolation of the Pandits from the society” will not be allowed and both the communities collectively will not let this to happen.
“The Pandits are a vital part of the Kashmiri society and no individual or any group is against their return,” a Hurriyat Conference (g) statement this evening.
Strongly rejecting the statement of the minister of state for home affairs, GoI, Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary in the parliament in which he had said that “the plan of establishment of separate townships for the Kashmiri migrant Pandits in the valley is still under consideration and the state government had been asked for the identification of land for the purpose”, the Hurriyat amalgam said, “we are in no way against the return and rehabilitation of the Pandit community in the Valley but the Indian government and its policy makers want to play a very dangerous game under its grab and they not only want to divide the Kashmiri society on the religious lines but they also want to harm the freedom struggle of the Kashmiris. Kashmir issue is not about any Hindu-Muslim dispute but the people of this land are demanding their Right to Self Determination for last 7 decades. India, however, want to misled the international community by portraying this struggle as communal issue and the establishment of the separate Composite Townships for the Pandits is part of this plan.”
Hurriyat expressed apprehension that these composite townships “will act as safe zones for the communal agents and the Sangh Parivar people and there is every possibility of misusing of these safe zones”. “India is working from a very long time now to change the demography of the Jammu & Kashmir and is leaving no stone unturned to change the Muslim majority state into a Hindu state. In the name of rehabilitation of homeless people, the nomadic people from many parts of India are proposed to be settled here, veiled attempts are being made to permanently settle the West Pakistani Refugees in the state, a room is being created for the settlement of non-state people in the name of issuing of Dogra certificates, a plan to setup colonies for the retired Indian army personals is under consideration of the government and in the name of rehabilitation of the migrant Pandit families, a plan is being made to settle the communal minded people in these safe homes. Besides all this a large number of non-state labourers are being settled in Jammu & Kashmir whose population has surpassed the 5 lakh mark here and most of them don’t leave in winters. Many evidences and proofs are coming from different parts of the state that many non-state labourers have been issued election cards and ration cards here.”
“The main and real target of the Indian policy makers is the freedom struggle of the Kashmiri people and they are trying in every possible ways to suppress this movement. The only purpose of changing the demography of this Muslim majority state is that if someday under the international pressure India had to held referendum here, this demographic change will come to their rescue,” the statement alleged.
Hurriyat Conference (g) cautioned the Kashmiri people that if they could not understand these dangerous plans and did nothing to counter these policies, “they will be left as strangers in their own land and besides their dignity and property, they will lose their identity too”.
Hurriyat also criticized the role of PDP, NC and all other people of this tribe and said, “these people are playing a leading role in the implementation of the dangerous policies of India and they have sold their conscience for the chair and power. To counter the dangerous policies of India, we have to stop voting and supporting the pro-Indian parties. Otherwise our journey to freedom will lengthen and our coming generations will also have to pass through the oppressive rule.”
