SRINAGAR: The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has announced a series of scheduled power shutdowns across multiple areas in Srinagar and adjoining districts to facilitate infrastructure development, maintenance work, and the upgradation of the 33KV network. The shutdowns, spread over several days from July 13 to 20, are being undertaken to execute works such as conductor stringing, relocation of old line structures, tree branch cutting, and stabilisation of power lines.
According to the Chief Engineer, Distribution KPDCL, the first outage will take place on July 13 when the 33KV GIS Tengpora–Exhibition line will be shut down to carry out the relocation of old wooden frames of the 33KV Exhibition line inside the PCR complex at Batamaloo. As a result, the 33/11KV receiving stations at Batamaloo and Exhibition will remain non-operational, affecting power supply to Batamaloo, PCR, HSHS, Baranpathri and nearby localities between 6:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
On July 14 and July 16, a shutdown of the 33KV BK Pora–Khanda Tap line will be observed to allow the stringing of conductors under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). During this period, the 33/11KV receiving station at Khanda will remain off, impacting the electricity supply to Chattergam, Magraypora, Suthsoo, Gowherpora and adjoining areas from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Also on July 14, a separate shutdown has been scheduled from 6:00 AM to 11:00 AM on the 33KV Badampora–Kurhama–Dab line to facilitate 11KV reconductoring, conductoring, transformer charging, earthing and tapping work. This will affect power supply to areas fed by the receiving stations at Kurhama, Dab, GCET and Sainik School, including Kurhama, Youngpora, Baroosa, Checki Baba, Rabitar, Kondbal, Old Dab and the GCET Safapora complex.
Further disruptions are planned for July 15, 16, 19 and 20 to allow essential maintenance work, including tree branch cutting and line stabilisation, on several 33KV lines emanating from the Alasteng grid station. On July 15 and 19, the Alasteng–Nagbal line will remain shut between 8:00 AM and 12:00 Noon, affecting receiving stations at Alasteng, Nagbal, Gadoora and Tulbagh. Power supply to Shuhama, Bakura, Darend, Fatehpora, Gadoora, Tulbagh, Chunduna, Shairpathri and adjoining localities will be disrupted during this period.
Also on July 15, the Alasteng–Zakura line will be taken offline, affecting supply to areas fed by Gulabagh, Ahmadnagar and Umarhair receiving stations. Residents of Pandach, Pathan Colony, Gulab Bagh, Mir Mohalla, Umarhair, Nowbugh, Ahmad Nagar, 90ft Road and Khalmulla will experience outages between 8:00 AM and 12:00 Noon.
Shutdowns on July 16 and 20 will affect the Alasteng–Power House line, with outages scheduled from 8:00 AM to 12:00 Noon on both days. This will impact the receiving stations at Powerhouse, Manigam, Duderhama and the Contingency Plant, resulting in power cuts in Beehama, Arampora, Arch, Nunner, Manigam, Duderhama, Malshaibagh, Wayil, Gutlibagh and the surrounding areas.
