SRINAGAR: Marching towards progress and moving on a growth trajectory, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Budgam achieved a milestone by receiving Best KVK award among the 21 KVKs of Jammu and Kashmir after KVK Kathua from ICAR-ATARI Zone-1 Ludhiana in Annual Virtual Zonal Workshop of KVKs on July 6 and July 7, 2020, said an official statement.

An official statement said that the workshop was attended by Worthy Director General (ICAR) New Delhi, DDG (Extension), Vice-Chancellors and Directors of the Extension of the Universities of Zone-1, ADG’s of ICAR and Zonal Project Director of ATARI, Zone-1 and Heads of the KVKs of Zone-1.

“Plenary Session was also addressed by  Vice-Chancellors of the respective Universities. In the workshop, all Heads of the KVKs presented their Annual Progress Report for the year 2019-20 and Action Plant for the year 2020-21,” said the statement.

“KVK Budgam received the award on the basis of its performance and working during the recent years. Zonal Project Director, ATARI Zone-1 lauded the work of KVK Budgam accomplished in a short span of time,’ it said.

“Another milestone of KVK Budgam is that SKUAST-Kashmir has been granted a patent on  July 8, 2020, on “Mistletoe Eradicator”, a mechanical tool to eradicate parasitic weed of walnut “Mistletoe”,” said the statement.

“The patent was filed by one of the budding Scientists of KVK Dr  Khurshid Ahmad Bhat, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Pathology) in the year2016. Finally after examination, Patent Office Intellectual Property India New Delhi, Govt. of India granted “Patent Certificate” and patent to SKUAST-Kashmir on 8th July 2020,’ it said.

“KVK Budgam expresses its gratitude and sincere thanks to Professor Nazeer Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Kashmir, Professor Mushtaq Ahmad, Director Extension, SKUAST-Kashmir, Dr Rajbir Singh, Director ATARI (ICAR), Zone-1, District Development Commissioner, Budgam, Officers of the Line Departments of District Budgamand other fellow Scientists from Faculties/ Divisions/ Stations of SKUAST-Kashmir, for their support, guidance and collaboration in achieving these milestones,”  said the statement.
