Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation Tuesday said that the federation will hold a protest demonstration on Jan 18 against the JK Muslim Wakf Board over its proposed hike in rent on properties including shops and commercial establishments owned by it.

A statement of the federation issued here said that the Federation members held a meet under Vice President Manzoor Ahmad Bhat at their head office Budshah Chowk.

“It was this government which deprived business community of decent rehabilitation of traders post 2014 floods. It was this government which remained a reason for months of unrest when we traders did no business and now when we struggling for revival of business, the government is pushing us to another aggression,” Bhat, according to the statement said.

Bhat said the hike of rent on Wakf assets will have a cascading effect on all shopkeepers across Kashmir.

He said the business community was being pushed to the wall again and again and that it seems that the government wants the Kashmir Traders to take to streets than do business smoothly. “We don’t want to be at loggerheads with government and want to do our business but government is instigating us to take extreme steps. Government will be responsible for the repercussions,” Bhat warned.
