Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University Prof KI Andrabi Tuesday said that he was not opposed to extending PG status to other disciplines in Sri Pratap College. “I don’t want educational institutions to get into competition with each other,” he said.

He was speaking at Two day Inter-disciplinary Science Conference- 2015 (NIS’CON- 2015) ‘Recent Research Trends in Chemical and Environmental Sciences’ organized by the PG departments of Chemistry, Environmental Sciences and Environment & Water Management.

Prof Andrabi was flanked by Dr Yaseen Ahmad Shah, Principal, SP College; Prof Zahoor Ahmad Chatt, Chairperson, JK BOSE and Farooq Ahmad Shah, Director Tourism Department.

He lamented that the quality of research across India had gone down because “institutions are more into a rat race with the West.” He said that India invested in research as much as US does yet the country stood nowhere in front of Japan and China.

Prof Andrabi also said, “humans must stop interfering with the nature because you cannot create better than what the nature has.” “We must be reasonably modest in respecting nature and whatever has been left must be conserved.”

The conference will also see a presentation of research abstracts by researchers and scientists across India. “All abstracts will be subjected to peer review,” reads the hand out.

During inaugural session, the key note address was delivered by Prof DP Sarkar of Delhi University.
