Hundreds of Kashmir University students from different hostels of the varsity including girl’s hostels on Sunday offered funeral prayers in absentia to the slain scholar and assistant professor Dr Muhammad Rafi at Iqbal library lawn of the varsity.

Reports said that hundreds of Kashmir University marched through the campus raising slogans in favour of Pakistan, Azad assembled outside the Allama Iqbal library and offered funeral prayers.

Besides students scholars and faculty members of Kashmir University also participated in the funeral prayers of Dr Rafi.

Rafi was killed during an encounter between the government forces and militants along with other four militants in Badigam village of Shopian district.

The slain had gone missing on Friday afternoon from the University campus. He was working as Assistant Professor (Contractual) in the Sociology department of the varsity.

Dr Rafi was awarded doctorate degree in November last year. He had completed his Ph.D programme on whole time basis in the Department of Sociology after successfully defending his thesis entitled “Globalization and emerging trends in Consumerism: A comparative study of rural and urban Kashmir”.
