Kupwara Administration Issues Weather Advisory, Urges People to Avoid Vulnerable Areas Till July 23

   

SRINAGAR : The Kupwara district administration has issued a weather advisory in view of the forecast of inclement weather by the Meteorological Centre, Srinagar, from July 19 to July 23, urging residents and travellers to exercise caution and avoid vulnerable areas during the period.

According to the advisory issued by Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, people residing in or planning to visit areas including Keran, Karnah, Machil, Budnamal, Jumugund, Nowgam and Kumkadi have been advised to refrain from venturing into locations prone to landslides, flash floods and avalanches until weather conditions improve.

The administration has also cautioned residents living along the peripheries of nallahs, rivers and hilly regions to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary movement in vulnerable areas.

Tourists, travellers and transporters have been advised to verify road conditions before undertaking any journey towards the hilly regions of the district, as adverse weather could disrupt connectivity and increase the risk of accidents.

To ensure preparedness, the district administration has directed all concerned departments to remain on high alert. Sub-Divisional Magistrates of Karnah and Lolab have been instructed to take all necessary precautionary measures in vulnerable areas.

Officials of the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Public Health Engineering, Jal Shakti, Public Works (R&B), Mechanical Engineering, Revenue Department, BEACON, PMGSY, KPDCL and Municipal bodies have been directed not to leave their headquarters without permission and to keep their staff and machinery in a state of readiness while maintaining close coordination with SDMs, Tehsildars and Station House Officers.

The District Information Officer has been asked to ensure wide publicity of the advisory through print and electronic media, while the District Informatics Officer has been directed to upload the advisory on the official district website.

The administration has appealed to the public to follow official advisories, avoid unnecessary travel to vulnerable areas and contact the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC), Police Control Rooms or the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS-112) in case of any emergency or for assistance.
