A Kupwara court Saturday sentenced 9 members of a family to 3 years of rigorous imprisonment for assaulting the members of another family and ransacking their property.

Ab Khaliq Zargar S/o Gh Rasool; Anwar Hussain Zargar and Ajaz Ahmad Zargar Sons of Ab Khaliq Zargar; Ab Aziz Zargar S/O Gh Ahmad Zargar, Parvez Ahmad Zargar S/O Ab Aziz Zargar, Zubaida Begum W/o Anwar Hussain, Haniefa Begum W/o Ab Aziz, Shafiqa Bano D/o Ab Aziz and Fatima Begum W/o Parvez Ahmad Zargar, all residents of R/o Chak Trehgam Kupwara were sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment by Imtiyaz Ahmad, Judicial Magistrate Kupwara. The court had been hearing the case of a domestic feud since 2002.

The accused had attacked the family of Gulam Nabi Zargar of Chakpora Trehgam in Kupwara on April 18, 2002, injuring his daughter Haseena Bano and cut some poplar trees of the victim family apart from ransacking their valuable belongings.

A case had been registered at the Police Station Trehgam under No 24/2002 under sections 148, 447, 354, 336, 427, 425.

The case was since being heard by the court of Judicial Magistrate Kupwara and the court delivered its verdict on Saturday.

The accused were represented by Advocate M Maqbool Mir while as the prosecution was represented by advocate Fayaz Ahmad and CPO Sheik Musharraf.

However, the accused were acquitted by the court of charges under section 354 and given five days time to appeal against the judgment in the sessions court Kupwara. (KNS)
