The locals of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district Sunday said the cell phone and internet services are down in the area since last night.

A local told Kashmir Life over phone that mobile internet and cell phone services were snapped last night after forces killed five militants in a gunfight.

However, Kashmir Life could not contact any district or police official of Kupwara to independently confirm the development.

Meanwhile, the five suspected militants who were killed in an encounter with forces in Drugmulla area of Kupwara yesterday were laid to rest. Thousands of people participated in the funeral prayers of the slain.

Witnesses said the deceased were laid to rest in Chak Dragmulla at 11 am today amid massive “pro-freedom, pro-Islam and anti-India” sloganeering.

The locals have demanded that a post-mortem be conducted on the bodies, witnesses added.
