SRINAGAR: Amid forecasts of intermittent rain for the next 24 hours, maximum temperatures in the Valley and some areas of the Jammu division have remained above normal. On Tuesday, Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 33.7 degrees Celsius.
Several areas in the Jammu division have experienced heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours.Kupwara in north Kashmir was the hottest spot in the region, reaching 34.6 degrees Celsius, while Qazigund, the gateway to Kashmir, recorded 32.9 degrees Celsius.
Pahalgam, saw a maximum temperature of 28.8 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Kokernag and Gulmarg, a popular ski resort, recorded temperatures of 31.5 degrees Celsius and 24.0 degrees Celsius, respectively.
In the Jammu division, the temperature settled at 32.8 degrees Celsius, with Banihal at 29.6 degrees Celsius. Batote, Katra, and Bhaderwah recorded maximum temperatures of 25.7 degrees Celsius, 29.0 degrees Celsius, and 31.8 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Jammu, Batote, and Katra have all received rainfall in the last 24 hours, with Jammu recording the highest precipitation at 24.4 mm, followed by Batote with 17.8 mm and Katra with 17.6 mm.
The Meteorological Department (MeT) has warned of intense showers for a brief period, along with the possibility of flash floods, cloudbursts, landslides, mudslides, and falling stones in vulnerable areas of J&K over the next 24 hours.
Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of the Meteorological Department, said that heavy rainfall is also expected in several locations during this period. He added that brief spells of rain and thundershowers are anticipated during the day, with light to moderate rain expected in many areas of J&K towards the night and early morning.
From August 8 to 10, brief showers are forecasted during the daytime, along with rain and thundershowers in scattered areas of the Kashmir division and many places in the Jammu division, mainly during late night and early morning. From August 11 to 13, brief spells of rain and thundershowers are expected in scattered areas of the Kashmir division and more widespread in the Jammu division. (KNO)
