Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have arrested a person and recovered incriminating materials including ammunition from his possession in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

“Kupwara police on a credible input arrested an individual and recovered incriminating materials including ammunition from his possession,” a police spokesman in a statement said.

“Police in Kupwara today intercepted an individual identified as Mohd Aslam Beigh, son of Nazir Ahmad Beigh a resident of Maidanpora Lolab, at a Naka checkpoint and upon his personal search, seized one grenade, besides other incriminating material,” the spokesman said.

“The individual has been taken into custody and preliminary investigation suggests that the individual was planning to join a militant outfit,  and along with other militants was planning a militant attack in  Kupwara area. Initial investigation revealed that he was motivated to turn to militancy through social media by entities based in Pakistan,” he said.

“A case FIR No. 6/2019 under relevant sections has been registered in P/S Kupwara in this matter,” said police spokesman.
