At a time when the jobs in government sector have dried up, the Directorate of Lifelong Learning, University of Kashmir is all set to launch Certificate Course in Civil Aviation Management in its upcoming academic session – a course that will attract aviation stakeholders to hire young professionals here.
The DLL is developing and designing the course in collaboration with one of India’s leading Aviation Company, GoAir India Pvt Ltd.
Calling the launch of course an innovative step and a major achievement by the DLL, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Kashmir, Prof Talat Ahmad said “I am happy, now we (University) has started involving major companies to benefit our student community.”
“All the modalities should be discussed and you should work on making it a most attractive course in the campus. This course should be designed in a way that students consider it a viable choice, if they are not selected in mainstream academic subjects,” VC told the officials.
Chairing a high level meeting of DLL and GoAir officials, the VC said that the course will be of a prime attraction at KU.
“I want this course to start soon. There are few more things to be deliberated upon, so that we formally launch this course for the aspiring candidates here,” he said.
The VC urged the authorities to design the course in student friendly way as it should be befitting the aspiring professionals more.
“We are already running a course in maters programme in Tourism Management, so there should be some mechanism, where besides others, we involve these students as well or give them a short internship or training programme in this sector as well,” he said.
Registrar, University of Kashmir, Prof Zaffar Ahmad Reshi said “the idea is new to Kashmir University but the concerned department will try to make it more impressive and attractive.”
Vice-President, Inflight and Customer Relationship Management of GoAir, Jehangir Mehta said: “For opting this course there has to be some aspirations and capabilities and it will certainly build a strong base for aviation companies to hire people from this place,”
“In this certification course, we will provide a wide range of training for the aviation and associated aspiring professionals,” he said.
President, Airports, GoAir, Kamal Kikani said the course will provide quality training in dangerous goods, crew resource management and safety management as well as providing sample exams and specialising in company manual development.
“During the course, the participants will be entirely taught at the University campus but there will be on job workshops and they will be taken to the Airports for the practical work,” he said.
The officials at the Directorate said that the launch of the course would benefit aspiring students to work in the aviation sector.
Director, DLL, University of Kahsmir, Dr GH Mir said “After many deliberations, the concrete shape of launching the course has come to us now. We will soon inviting applications for the course,” he said.
“It was in some informal meeting that DLL pitched the idea to GoAir chief and now it has taken a formal shape. We are sure this course is massively going to benefit our students,” he said.
The course is coordinated by the newly appointed Project Officer at DLL, Nazir Ahmad Ganaie. He said that the aviation sector was massively earning out of Kashmir and it was need of the hour to rope them in.
“We need some innovative courses; we cannot bank on the government sector. Aviation sector is earning massively out of Kashmir but we hardly see our people working in the sector. I think, the course is just a beginning, the aviation sector will be happy to come and hire people here,” Ganaie said.
“There is a lot of room for KU to involve even multinational companies for various endeavours and benefit the student community in this era of high beam competition,” he added.
Pertinently Mumbai based Ayesha Aziz, the youngest Kashmiri girl was recently hogging the newspaper headlines for getting a Student Pilot License from the prestigious Bombay Flying Club.
