SRINAGAR: A labourer who was critically injured in an accident at the NHPC Uri-I Stage-II hydropower project site has died at SKIMS Soura, officials said.
The deceased has been identified as Javid Ahmed Batla alias Javid Khan, a resident of Pringal in Boniyar. He was working for Max Infra Company at the tunnel site when he sustained critical injuries on Tuesday night.
Javid was first taken to PHC Boniyar and subsequently shifted to GMC Baramulla before being referred to SKIMS Soura, where he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.
According to local residents, Javid was struck by a loose rock inside the tunnel and alleged that adequate precautionary measures had not been put in place at the worksite.
The locals have demanded an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the incident and alleged negligence by the company.
Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated further proceedings.
