According to a circular issued by the Office of the Chief Engineer, Distribution, Power Development Department (PDD), Ladakh, a total of 1,496 government buildings with an aggregate rooftop solar capacity of 6.9 MW have already been covered till 2025–26.

The circular stated that despite significant progress, the department continues to receive applications for rooftop solar installations from various division and sub-division offices, indicating that several eligible buildings remain uncovered.

All heads of departments and concerned officers have been directed to furnish consolidated details of left-out government buildings under their jurisdiction that are technically feasible for rooftop solar installation so that the proposals can be placed before higher authorities for further action.

The circular said the initiative aims to maximise utilisation of unexploited rooftop spaces across Central, State and Union Territory government properties to promote energy sustainability under the flagship central scheme.

The Power Development Department has designated the Electric Project Division offices in Leh and Kargil as nodal agencies for coordination and submission of proposals.
