SRINAGAR: Ladakh administration has ordered the fast track recruitment of the personnel for State Disaster Response Force(SDFR) after heavy rains and flashfloods disrupted the normal life in the twin districts of Leh and Kargil,

While there was no loss of life, downpour in Leh and Kargil triggered muck and boulders rolling downhill and damaging properties and disrupting road network. The damage was mostly in Lamdon and Skampari areas in Leh, the Tribune reported.

The administration had also ordered formation of committees with the chief engineer of the Border Roads Organisation’s projects as the nodal officer for the timely communication in case of calamities and to initiate relief works.

Officials have also been directed to clear the nallahs and water channels of the boulders, sludge and other blockage. Besides, anti-encroachment drives along the water channels have also been ordered.

The administration will also conduct a hydrological survey along with the long-term mapping of the Leh town to control the haphazard construction of houses along the water channels, Tribune reported.

Meanwhile, a relief camp has been established for the affected people with ration and bedding being provided to them.
