SRINAGAR: Electricity infrastructure works are continuing in remote and high-altitude areas of Ladakh despite early winter snowfall and sub-zero temperatures, as authorities work to strengthen power connectivity in difficult-to-reach settlements, including Nubra and the Siachen region.
The ongoing operations come as harsh winter conditions put additional pressure on the Union Territory’s electricity supply and lead to seasonal power cuts.
Frontline electricity workers are carrying out field operations, including climbing poles and undertaking infrastructure-related work, despite snowfall and challenging terrain.
The initiative is being implemented by the Ladakh Power Development Department (LPDD) in collaboration with the Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, with the aim of extending reliable electricity infrastructure to far-flung areas.
The efforts are being pursued under the guidance of Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, with interventions from Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra to accelerate infrastructure development across the Union Territory.
Secretary, Power Development Department, Himanshu Gupta, is coordinating departmental efforts and monitoring ongoing projects to ensure their progress despite geographical and climatic difficulties.
The initiative is part of efforts to strengthen electricity connectivity in remote settlements and strategically important areas of Ladakh, where severe winter conditions pose additional challenges to infrastructure development and power supply.
