President Droupadi Murmu has approved the setting up of the bench, with the notification published in the Gazette of India Extraordinary on August 27, 2026. The Union Cabinet had approved the proposal on August 20.

Saxena said the notification, issued within seven days of the Cabinet decision, reflected the Union Government’s commitment to addressing the long-standing aspirations of the people of Ladakh.

He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the decision, describing it as a significant step towards bringing the High Court closer to the people of Ladakh.

“For a geographically challenging region like Ladakh, access to justice cannot be separated from physical accessibility,” Saxena said.

He said the establishment of the bench would substantially reduce difficulties faced by residents in seeking higher judicial remedies and strengthen public confidence in the justice delivery system.

The Lieutenant Governor said the move would provide people in Ladakh with easier, faster and more accessible access to justice.
