SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday extended greetings to sportspersons, athletes and sports enthusiasts across the country on the occasion of National Sports Day and paid tribute to hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand on his birth anniversary.

In a post on X, the Office of the Lieutenant Governor said, “Greetings to all sportspersons and sports enthusiasts on National Sports Day. Tributes to Hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand Ji on his Jayanti.”
Sinha described Dhyan Chand as an inspiration whose achievements and sportsmanship brought pride and honour to the country.
He said the legendary hockey player’s dedication, discipline and contribution to Indian sport continued to inspire generations of athletes.
National Sports Day is observed annually to mark the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of hockey.
The occasion also underscores the importance of sports, fitness, discipline and sporting excellence, while recognising athletes for their contribution to the country.
