A lady committed suicide in South Kashmir’ Islamabad while two persons drowned in North Kashmir’ Kupwara.

A police statement Tuesday afternoon said that a lady committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at her home in Islamabad.

“A lady (name with held) and resident of Kokernag, Anantnag consumed some poisonous substance at her home. She was shifted to SMHS Hospital, Srinagar where she breathed her last. After completing all medico-legal formalities police handed over  the body of deceased to her next of kins for last rites,” the statement said.

Two persons including a minor girl drowned at two separate places in Kupwara District of North Kashmir.

“A minor girl Nasreena daughter of Ghulam Hassan Khatana resident of Nagri, Police Post Hatmulla, Kupwara got drowned in Nagri Nallah Canal. The body of the deceased was fished out and handed over to her relatives for last rites,” the statement informed.

A 19 year old Owais Yusuf Lone son of Mohammad Yousuf Lone resident of Surigam, Lolab, Kupwara drowned while bathing in a Lake at Surigam Lolab.  Police Kupwara putting its efforts to fish out the body of drowned boy.

The statement furthere said that three persons were injured in road accidents.

A load carrier bearing registration number JK03B/3049 hit a motorcycle bearing registration number JK01D/4195 near Pazalpora in the jurisdiction of Police Station Bijbehara, Anantnag, resulting in injuries to motorcyclist Mohammad Ayoub Najar resident of Katoo Srigufwara, Islamabad. The injured was shifted to hospital for treatment.

In another accident, a Scooter bearing registration number JK13/7779 hit and injured a pedestrian Noora Begum resident of Bakoora, Rajouri at present Kanipora, Shopian  near Fire Station Ayalpora Shopian. In the incident, Scooter rider Araful Aslam resident of Narpora, Shopian was also injured. Both the injured were shifted to hospital for treatment. Shopian police has registered a case in this regard.

Firther, three boys were injured in a bear attack in North Kashmir’s Kupwara.

A bear attacked and injured three boys Shahid Shafi Sheikh son of Mohammad Shafi,  Altaf Ahamd Sheikh son of Sana-ul-lah and Faizan Ahmad Hajam son of Fayaz Ahmad residents of Sogam Lolab, Kupwara when they were playing in nearby field. All the injured were shifted to Hospital for treatment.

Police alos arrested a man after recovering 16 kilograms of poppy straw powder  from his house.

“Acting on a tip off, a police party of Police station Sirgufwara raided the house of Farooq Ahmad Dar son of Mohammad Ramzan resident of Sirhama, Sirgufwara. During the search 16 kilograms of poppy straw powder was recovered. The house owner Farooq Dar was taken into custody and further investigation in this regarding is going on.”
