Minister for Forest, Environment and Ecology, Choudhary Lal Singh on Friday launched a Chinar plantation drive alongside Udhampur-Nashri tunnel on Jammu-Srinagar highway.

On the occasion, the minister said that government is aiming to popularize Chinar plantation with sustained drives in various regions of the state.

While planting Chinar saplings he said, “Forest ministry is up for covering maximum area under plantation.

Singh asked the concerned officials to intensify the plantation drive during this rainy season saying that this will help in keeping ecological balance along highway.

He according to spokesman also urged people to come forward in huge numbers and start plantation drives and save forests from further deterioration. “The government is well abreast with the issues regarding the forests and is endeavouring hard to mitigate these at the earliest,” he said, adding, “We are contemplating to update the forest policy with the aim to increase the forest wealth of the state.”
