BUDGAM: Farooq Khushu, a resident of Bemina, has introduced the Turkish Walnut Chandler variety to India, establishing a plant nursery on rented land in Budgam and providing employment to several youth. Despite being landless, Khushu has built a successful horticulture business, expanding his nursery to 45 plant varieties, including high-demand foreign species.
Khushu, who started as a job seeker, now runs a thriving enterprise in the horticulture sector. He has encouraged young people to take advantage of centrally sponsored schemes to develop independent businesses. His introduction of the Walnut Chandler, known for its superior yield and quality, is expected to benefit farmers and boost agricultural production in the region.
His initiative highlights the potential for horticultural entrepreneurship in Jammu and Kashmir and underscores the economic opportunities that arise from innovation in plant cultivation.
