A residential house was completely damaged in Hanjishat village in Handwara area of Kupwara district due to landslide in Pohru stream.

The single storey house belonged to 55-year-old Muhammad Anwar Sheikh, father of seven daughters.

Sheikh said that due to rainfall in the area water level increased in Pohru stream caused landslide along the near the stream banks, and washed away nearly 4 kanals of land.

“My house is located near the stream and it was damaged completely due to the landslide,” he said.

The family has appealed the administration for help.

Twelve families shifted to safety due to the threat posed by the landslide in the area.

The residents accused the irrigation and flood control department for not taking measures on time.

“Time and again we appealed the administration to raise concrete retaining wall along the banks, but they paid no attention,” the residents said. (KNS)
