A civilian died and six sustained injries on Sunday morning after an unexploded shell went off at the encounter site in Laroo village of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Official sources said that an hour after the gunfight a youth identified as Ubaid Ahmed Lawey, 25, a resident of Laroo village, accidentally touched an unexploded shell near the debris at the encounter site, resulting into his death.

In the incident, at least six civilians have sustained injuries. Meanwhile, two youth who were also injured in the explosion were shifted to Srinagar’s SMHS hospital for the treatment and both are said to be very critical now.

The gunfight began on today morning after a joint contingent of Army’s 9RR, CRPF and SOG of JK police,  over a specific input laid a Cordon and Search Operation in laroo village, in the brief encounter three militants were killed and two army men were also injured.

In the backdrop of an encounter, the mobile internet services in the district were also suspended for “precautionary measures”
