Disgruntled over his not being nominated for contesting the legislative council elections, District President Ganderbal of the state Congress, Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar presented his resignation from all posts of the party.

Ishfaq, who had contested 2008 assembly elections from Ganderbal on Congress ticket, expressed displeasure over his non inclusion among the nominees for LC elections.

While speaking to a local news agency KNS over phone, Ishfaq said that he had been assured by Congress high command that he would be fielded as a candidate for LC elections. “Some days back I had talked to Mohan Prakash, Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi who had assured me that I would be contesting LC elections. However ticket has been given to someone who could only manage a few hundred votes in 2008 elections”, he said.

“I am a public figure and will work for people of the state as an independent candidate”, he added.

When asked whether he was not fielded for elections because of him being a contestant from the Chief Minister’s constituency, he said, “Nothing can be ruled out.”
