For the first time, Department of Gynae & Obstetrics, Government Medical College, Srinagar organised two days International Workshop on Laparoscopic and Hysteroscopy Surgeries at Government Lalla Ded Hospital, Srinagar from Friday, March 15.

The Laparoscopic and Hysteroscopy surgeries were performed in the LD Hospital theatre by internationally renowned Hysteroscopic Gynaecological Surgeon Dr Osama Shawki from Egypt and renowned Laparoscopic Surgeon Dr. Nutan Jain from Muzaffar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. The surgeries were relayed live to the conference hall of the hospital and witnessed by faculty members, doctors and students.

The two day workshop was inaugurated by Dr Rafiq Ahmed Pampori, Principal/Dean Government Medical College, Srinagar and was attended by Dr Shehnaz Taing, HOD Gynae & Obst, Dr Mushtaq Ahmed, Medical Superintendent, LD Hospital, senior faculty members of Gynae and Obst., HODs from all faculties of GMC Sgr, Lecturers, Registrars, Post Graduates (PGs) and Under Graduate (UG) students.

A panel discussion on the surgeries was attended by former Principal GMC, Dr Shahida Mir, former HOD Gynae & Obst, Dr  Bilquees Jameela, Dr Shahida Mufti as expert panellists.

Speaking on the occasion Principal GMC appreciated the initiative taken by the Gynae & Obstetrics department for organising the workshop. He said that Laparoscopic surgeries are beneficial for the patients and preferred since the recovery time is lesser as compared to conventional surgeries. He announced that LD hospital would be provided with a new hysteroscopy instrument, so that the surgeries could be performed regularly, for the benefit of the patients.

Dr Shehnaz Taing in her welcome address gave a resume of the programme and said that it was a humble beginning. She expressed hope that the programme would be carried forward for the benefit of the patients. Dr Osama Shawki said that he was very pleased with the interest shown by the faculty and doctors. He assured that he would visit the hospital for a longer duration and teach the PGs and UGs. Dr Nutan Jain was so enthusiastic that she continued the Laparoscopic surgeries till 7pm.

Dr  Syed Masuma Rizvi, Asst Professor Gynae & Obst, coordinated the programme as the Organising Secretary and presented vote of thanks.
