Local sources said that the leopard entered the house of Abdul Hameed Dar and attacked four individuals, leaving them injured. The injured villagers were rushed to the Primary Health Centre Khag for treatment.

After the attack, locals from the nearby Kokar Bagh area reportedly confronted and killed the leopard.

A team from the Wildlife Department later arrived at the scene and took custody of the leopard’s body. Wildlife Officer Bashir Ahmad confirmed that the animal had been killed by locals after the attack. “The leopard was sleeping in an abandoned house and came out when it was disturbed,” he said, urging people to avoid provoking wild animals.

Meanwhile, residents have called on the government to establish a sub-office of the Wildlife Department in Khag to ensure quicker responses to such incidents and enhance public safety. (KNT)
