SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have arrested a LeT militant in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

A police spokesman in a statement said that acting on specific information regarding the movement of militants in Zalwan Nursery area of Bandipora, Bandipora police along with 14 RR and 3rd Bn CRPF launched a joint CASO. During the search one, locally trained militant of LeT was apprehended.

He said that the arrested militant disclosed his identity as Shahid Hussain Bhat son of GH Hassan Bhat a resident of Plan Bandipora.

He added that on his disclosure 02 Hand Grenades were recovered which he had kept in paddy fields near Ward No.04 Plan Bandipora.

“The arrested militant was in touch with militant of LeT in PaK and was given the task to target police / security forces in Bandipora,” said the spokesman, adding that he was also given the task by his handlers across the border to mobilise the youth in Bandipora for recruiting them in banned militant organization LeT.

“In this connection Case FIR No. 168/2022 was registered in PS Bandipora and further investigation has been take up,” said police spokesman in a statement.
