With the arrest of  Lashkar-e-Toiba Commander Fahadullah in Sopore and subsequent arrests made of his revelations, Police has solved many cases including the Doabgah murder case, killing of Sarpanch Ghulam Mohammad Yatoo of Palhallan and killing of Bashir Ahmad Ganaie at Kunzer Tangmarg. This was stated by Inspector General of police Abdul Ghani Mir in a press conference at Sopore Monday.

IGP who was flanked by the DIG North Kashmir, J P Singh and SP Sopore Imtiyaz Hussain stated that on March 19, 2013,  a youth Suhail Ahmad Sofi son of Ghulam Nabi Sofi resident of Doabgah, Sopore who was sitting with another youth of the same village in the ground near a local mosque where he was fired upon by one pistol borne unknown militant. He however escaped the bullets and ran away towards the mosque and took refuge inside the mosque. The assailant chased him and killed him inside the mosque. A Case FIR No 48/2013 under section 302 RPC, 7/27 Arms Act was registered with Police Station Sopore. Initial investigation revealed that the victim was fired upon using a Chinese made pistol.

IGP added that, “on April 18, 2013,  one Pakistani terrorist of LeT namely Qari Naveed alias Fahadullah son of Abdul Jabbar Baloch resident of Shuja Abad, Multan, Pakistan a self styled commander was arrested who revealed the involvement of Feroze Ahmad Dar son of Bashir Ahmad Dar resident of Alsafa Colony, Sopore in the murder of Suhail Ahmad Sofi. Thereafter, Feroz Dar was arrested and upon his revelation, identification and instance weapon of offense; a Chinese pistol was recovered. On the account of eyewitness, his own confession and recovery of weapon of offense and the matching empty cartridges recovered from the scene of crime, a case of murder was prime facie established against accused Feroze Ahmad Dar and the co-accused Fahadullah who provided him the pistol to kill Suhail Ahmad Sofi,” he said.

“It was Feroze Ahmad Dar who killed Suhail inside the mosque at the behest of LeT commander Fahadullah. The motive behind the murder was purportedly the suspicion by LeT outfit about Suhail being an informer of security forces. Feroz had been earlier working for Hizbul Mujahideen outfit for some time and later had joined LeT and presently had been working under the command of Pakistani terrorist commander Fahadullah,” he added.

The charge sheet against both the accused shall be produced before the court of law in due course of time.

IGP further said that, “a LeT militant Shabir Ahmad Sheikh @Tameem son of Abdul Rehman Sheikh resident of Palhallan who got killed in an encounter at Amargad Sopore was behind the killing of Ghulam Mohammad Yatoo son of Abdul Karim Yatoo resident of Palhallan who was Sarpanch of the village. A case FIR No: 207/2012 U/S 302 RPC, 7/27 Arms Act stands registered in the matter with Police Station Pattan. The case had been challaned against the three persons already arrested by Baramulla Police and against the slain militant under section 512 of CrPC and is presently sub-Judice in the Court of Law.”

IGP said that the killed militant Shabir Ahmad Sheikh had gone underground immediately after his involvement was revealed in Sarpanch murder. Moreover, “the slain militant was also involved in the killing of one Bashir Ahmad Ganie son of Ghulam Nabi Ganie resident of Chanpora Kunzer. A case FIR No: 15/2013 under section 302 RPC 7/27 Arms Act stands registered in the matter with Police Station Kunzer. Bashir Ahmad had been killed by the slain militant with the assistance of another LeT militant Hilal Ahmad Rather @Khalid on 08 March 2013.”

Meanwhile, IGP added that, “a module of LeT who had been perpetuating different terrorist activities in and around Sopore was busted. Some of the conduits have been arrested which include: Shakir Showket Bhat @Mawaz son of Showket Ahmad Bhat resident of Nowpora Kalan Mohammad Rafi Malik son of Sonaullah Malik resident of Hajam Mohalla Marazigund Rafiabad, besides the ones mentioned above etc. With these arrests about a dozen grenade attack cases in and around Sopore have been solved.”

While revealing the arms recovered, IGP said that , “following recoveries have been made from the possession of the slain and arrested militants/ conduits as two AK riffles, two AK magazines, forty rounds of AK ammunition, two Chinese pistols, three pistol magazines and two hand grenades. More arrests and more recoveries are expected in the coming time.”
