SRINAGAR: PDP President Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday said the public should “judge for themselves” after the Assembly Speaker denied rejecting a resolution seeking to declare July 13 as a public holiday.
After refusing to exercise his discretionary powers to allow PDP’s important resolution seeking a holiday on 13 July Martyr’s Day the Hon’ble Speaker now denies ever rejecting it.

In a post on X, Mehbooba said, “After refusing to exercise his discretionary powers to allow PDP’s important resolution seeking a holiday on 13 July Martyrs’ Day, the Hon’ble Speaker now denies ever rejecting it. Let the people judge for themselves – why did the same Speaker, using the same discretionary powers, allow two government resolutions earlier but chose to block the one that sought to honour the martyrs of 13 July?”
Earlier, Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, refuted Mehbooba Mufti’s claim, calling her statement “misleading” and “not based on facts.”
The Speaker clarified that the resolution seeking the declaration of a holiday on July 13, submitted by PDP legislator Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra, had been admitted during the Budget Session.
