SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday attended the ceremony marking the upgradation of ‘Apna Bhojanalaya’ at Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, a community kitchen run by Sewa Bharti with support from JK Bank and other donors.
The Lieutenant Governor lauded the initiative and also partook in a meal at the facility, appreciating its role in serving patients and attendants at GMC Jammu.
Describing the effort as an embodiment of selfless service, he said the enduring spirit of Sewa Bharti strengthens communities and uplifts human dignity. “There is no higher duty than serving those in need. Sewa Bharti has honoured that duty by nourishing bodies, restoring souls, and affirming the dignity of every human life,” he said.
He added that initiatives like Apna Bhojanalaya reinforce the social fabric, stating that strengthening such efforts means strengthening society itself. “To serve food to the hungry is among the most sacred acts a human being can perform,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
Emphasising collective responsibility, he called for selfless service towards society and nation-building. “A strong Jammu and Kashmir means strong families, strong communities, and empowered citizens,” he said, adding that sustained service and commitment can transform society.
The Lieutenant Governor further noted that meaningful change requires not vast resources but dedication, vision, and compassion. He commended volunteers and donors for their contribution, stating that their service preserves human dignity.
“You did not merely feed the hungry, you upheld the dignity of millions,” he said, adding that the initiative should continue uninterrupted and grow further in reach and impact.
He also called upon all sections of society to actively participate in the fight against drug abuse.
The event was attended by Sewa Bharti office bearers and volunteers, including Jai Dev, Parmeet Singh, Rakesh Jha, Pradeep Kapoor, Sushil Kapoor, Trilok Singh Negi, Ajay Takoo, along with legislator Arvind Gupta, Amitava Chatterjee, Managing Director and CEO of JK Bank, and senior officials and medical faculty of GMC Jammu.
