SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday called for responsible and human-centric use of Artificial Intelligence, saying technology must remain anchored in ethics, core values and strict human oversight to ensure it serves the collective well-being of society.
Addressing the IIT (BHU) Global Alumni Meet in Chicago, Illinois, Sinha said AI would play a major role in driving economic growth by combining human potential with machine intelligence.
He stressed the need for proactive human guidance of technology, saying AI must be developed and deployed in a manner that keeps humanity at the centre.
“Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is building its own place in the world and preparing to lead it. This is India’s moment. This is India’s century,” Sinha said.
He described India’s emergence as “the rise of a civilisational power” that is confident, compassionate, innovative and unstoppable, adding that the country was advancing towards technological leadership while pursuing large-scale social welfare initiatives.
Paying tribute to Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, Sinha highlighted his contribution to engineering education and India’s industrial development, saying his vision continues to inspire generations to advance technology, strengthen the economy and serve society.
The Lieutenant Governor also spoke about the transformation of Jammu and Kashmir, attributing it to the abrogation of Article 370 and saying the Union Territory had witnessed significant development over the past six years.
“Jammu Kashmir has moved from shadows of fear to the light of opportunity, from isolation to integration, and from despair to destiny,” he said, adding that the transformation had opened new avenues for development, investment and opportunities.
Recalling Swami Vivekananda’s historic address in Chicago on September 11, 1893, Sinha also lauded the contribution of the IIT (BHU) global alumni and the Indian diaspora to society worldwide.
He urged the alumni to play an active role in India’s economic and civilisational resurgence and outlined a four-point roadmap for their engagement.
He called on alumni to invest in next-generation institutions through mentorship and capital, build strategic partnerships between American and Indian institutions, present an accurate narrative of India’s transformation globally, and reconnect with their roots by bringing their experience and knowledge back to the country.
Members of the IIT (BHU) Global Alumni Association and prominent citizens from diverse fields attended the event.
