In his address, the Lieutenant Governor described Sufism as “the most powerful force for peace and harmony in society,” underscoring its essence as “a way of life, a bond of love with the whole, and a loving relationship with God.” He further explained that the ultimate goal of Sufism is to foster societal awakening and encourage compassion and interconnectedness.

“The journey of Sufism emphasises inner purification, love, and a deep relationship with the divine,” the Lieutenant Governor remarked. “It has the potential to unite people from diverse backgrounds and break down the barriers of division.”

A key aspect of his address focused on the longstanding influence of Sufism in bridging social divides and promoting peace within communities. He highlighted Sufism’s role as a bulwark against extremist ideologies, stressing that the teachings of Sufism reject violence and discrimination in all forms. “Sufism has, for centuries, acted as a powerful counterforce to extremist ideologies. Through its mystical traditions—poetry, music, and other creative expressions—Sufism has contributed significantly to counter-radicalisation efforts,” he added.

The Lieutenant Governor also recalled the contributions of saints from Jammu and Kashmir in fostering unity, love, and brotherhood throughout the region’s history. He warned of the ongoing efforts by certain “Conflict Profiteers,” supported by forces from the neighbouring country, who are attempting to radicalise the youth for their own gain. He urged the people, especially the younger generation, to remain vigilant and identify these divisive elements, ensuring that such conflict profiteers have no place in society.

To further strengthen Sufism’s influence and counter radical ideology, the Lieutenant Governor proposed a multi-pronged strategy to promote Sufi literature and education, particularly among the youth. He called for the dissemination of Sufi teachings, music, and poetry through modern platforms such as videos, podcasts, and social media campaigns. “We must connect youth influencers with this campaign and establish mentorship programs where Sufi scholars can guide young minds,” he emphasised.

The event was marked by captivating performances from Sufi artists, which celebrated the region’s Sufi heritage and traditions. Distinguished attendees included Justice N. Kotiswar Singh, Judge of the Supreme Court of India; Justice Arun Palli, Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh; Rajiv Agarwal from Sufi Score Limited; senior officials, Sufi scholars, and people from all walks of life.

The Lieutenant Governor’s address at the “Noor-e-Sama” conference further solidified the pivotal role of Sufism in shaping the cultural and social fabric of Jammu and Kashmir, serving as a timeless force for peace and unity in the region.
