SRINAGAR: In the fiscal year 2024-25, the Jammu and Kashmir Government sanctioned 14,965 cases under the Marriage Assistance Scheme in the Kashmir division, transferring approximately Rs 74.82 crore directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts, a DIPR statement said.
The scheme supports underprivileged families with financial aid for marriage expenses, offering Rs 75,000 to Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) ration card holders and Rs 50,000 to Priority Household (PHH) card holders.
Baramulla district recorded the highest number of beneficiaries at 2,472, receiving Rs 12.36 crore in assistance, followed by Anantnag with 2,293 cases and Rs 11.46 crore. Ganderbal district had the lowest number of beneficiaries, with 592 cases and Rs 2.96 crore disbursed.
The scheme is implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and uses Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to ensure timely financial support. It is targeted at girls aged 18 or above, with a minimum educational qualification of 8th standard. Applications must be submitted at least one month before the marriage date.
Applicants are required to provide documents including a Date of Birth Certificate, AAY or PHH ration card, Aadhaar Card, and educational qualification certificate.
