SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday presented appointment letters to more than 3,200 newly recruited constables of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and called upon them to remain vigilant against evolving law and order and terrorism-related threats in the Union Territory.
Addressing the recruits during the appointment letter presentation ceremony in Jammu, the Lieutenant Governor said the changing nature of terrorism and security threats required “constant, unyielding vigilance” and urged the constables to dedicate themselves to safeguarding the unity and integrity of the country.
He said the security challenges faced by Jammu and Kashmir demanded close coordination among different agencies and emphasised the importance of information sharing, joint planning and collective response mechanisms.
Referring to terrorism and security concerns, the Lieutenant Governor said law enforcement agencies must work to dismantle terror support systems, including funding channels and operational networks, through legal measures and coordinated action.
He also stressed the importance of traditional policing practices alongside the use of modern technology, stating that beat policing remained effective in maintaining law and order and preventing illegal activities at the local level.
The Lieutenant Governor said the newly inducted personnel were joining a force with a long institutional legacy and urged them to uphold the values of service, discipline and public duty associated with the police organisation.
During the event, he also commended the Jammu and Kashmir Police for action taken against drug smuggling and narcotics-related activities under the ongoing anti-drug campaign in the Union Territory. He said the police had prepared a comprehensive strategy to curb drug trafficking routes and indicated that further enforcement measures would continue in the coming days.
The ceremony was attended by senior civil and police officials, including Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Principal Secretary Home Chandraker Bharti, Special Director General Coordination PHQ SJM. Gillani, Commandant General Home Guards Abdul Ghani Mir and Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor Mandeep K. Bhandari, along with family members of the recruits.
