Panic gripped in Helmatpora hamlet of Frontier District of Kupwara when licensed guns roar in air over a petty dispute. Police has seized the guns, however no person has been arrested so far in this regard.

Reports said that a non-local Imam soon after morning prayers made some anti-movement remarks in his sermon. This infuriated some people present there while another group appealed the agitated people to maintain calm. “All our efforts proved futile as the both groups started fighting with each other. Both the groups according to sources used their licensed guns freely and resorted to aerial firing which created panic in the area,” one of the eyewitnesses told CNS.

One of the group accused that police did not take any action against the group which beat Ghulam Rasool Khan ruthlessly and hit him with gun buts injuring him critically.

“Police refused to lodge FIR despite the directions from Deputy Inspector General North Kashmir due to reasons better known to them,” Ghulam Rasool said.

A police official said that they are looking into the matter.
