SRINAGAR: The extended dry period in the Valley saw a break as the Gurez sector in the Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir experienced light snowfall overnight, while minimum temperatures increased in various places, according to officials on Saturday.

A weak western disturbance affected Jammu and Kashmir on Friday night, causing light snowfall in the Gurez area in north Kashmir.

Drass in Ladakh also received very light snowfall, with no snow accumulation reported.

Jammu and Kashmir had a 79 per cent rain deficit in December, and the first week of January saw no precipitation. Cloudy skies led to a rise in minimum temperatures in several parts of the Valley, settling several degrees above the normal for this season.
