SRINAGAR: A joint enforcement drive was carried out by the Departments of Legal Metrology, Food Safety and Food Civil Supplies in Kathua town and adjoining areas.
The spokesman said that inspection team conducted checking of various trade establishments in Main Bazar, College Road, Industrial area, Sawan Chack Bus Stand Road Kathua and Chadwal, Dayalachack areas of Hiranagar Tehsil.
During the course of inspection, the enforcement team of Legal Metrology Department booked a number of traders including two leading Manufacturing companies Dabur India Ltd. (Real Juice) and Mondlez India Foods Private Ltd.(Cadbury Dairy Milk) for violation of Legal Metrology Acts & Rules. The Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Kuldeep Raj compounded 33 cases on the spot and imposed a penalty of Rs. 101900.
Moreover, legal notices were served to the erring manufacturing companies and action as per Acts and Rules shall be taken against them.
The Legal Metrology Department appealed the consumers to be vigilant and aware while making purchases especially during festival seasons and before purchasing any commodity in packaged form they must check mandatory declarations mentioned on the packages like MRP, net contents, date of packaging, complete address of the manufacturer/packer and consumer care number.
