SRINAGAR: One more civilian was killed and two others were injured in cross-LoC fire in Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday.
Official sources said that one civilian identified as Afrar Ahmad son of Latief Ahmad a resident of Gohallan was killed and two others were injured.
A police officer said that Pakistan army initiated the “unprovoked ceasefire” violation by firing mortar shells and small arms along the LoC in Uri.
The troops manning the fence responded strongly which resulted in a heavy exchange of cross-LoC shelling in these areas, he said.
Earlier, five soldiers and three civilians were killed in shelling from across the Line of Control in Uri and Gurez sectors of north Kashmir.
Meanwhile, Army spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said the Army foiled an infiltration bid, which was aided by the ceasefire violation, along the LoC in the Keran sector.
“Suspicious movement was observed by our troops at the forward posts along the LoC in Keran sector (in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district) today. The suspected infiltration bid was foiled by alert troops,” said the spokesman.
