Lolab forests on Saturday witnessed a brief encounter between security forces and militants.

According to the reports received by KNS, the forces during their normal patrolling in the Lolab forests, received a tip off about the presence of militants in the upper reaches of Dardpora area. After the massive search operation was launched, militants fired upon the security forces –resulting in a brief fight with the militants who were reportedly 4-5 in number. The militants again after the incident went into hiding.

Confirms the reports a senior Police officer stationed in the district told KNS over phone that the security forces had a brief encounter with the militants in the forests of Lolab and that it hardly lasted for 3 to 4 minutes. “Since the forests are very dense, therefore it is difficult for the security forces to ascertain the number of the militants hiding in the forests.” The reports added that during the search operations militants fired upon the security forces. The reports maintained further that the massive man hunt for the ultras has been jointly launched by the local police, Special Operations Group (SOG) and Army.  the search operation was on till the last reports came in.

Pertinently, the fierce gun battle between forces and militants erupted on February 24 in which seven militants were killed. Addressing the media men art Lolab army had claimed that some more militants could be present in the forests.
