Srinagar:

District Election Officer (Deputy Commissioner) Srinagar, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone, today convened a meeting to take stock of arrangements being put in place for smooth conduct of April 9 Lok Sabha bye-elections for Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency.

Joint Director Information Kashmir, Deputy Commissioner, Commercial Taxes, Chief Education Officer Srinagar and other concerned attended the meeting.

The DEO stressed the officials to gear up their men and machinery for the smooth conduct of the elections in Srinagar. On the occasion, Dr. Lone constituted various committees and designated various officers to oversee arrangements for Ballot papers, Media, Transport, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), Enforcement of Modal Code of Conduct, Expenditure monitoring, and associated aspects of the forthcoming elections.

The District Election Officer directed the concerned officers to ensure necessary arrangements like of electricity, drinking water and washroom facilities at all the designated polling stations. He also directed the officials to constitute flying squads to ensure adherence to Model Code of Conduct. During the meeting, the DEO called for awareness drive among voters informing them about the use of the EVMs.

According to the election notification issued for the by-polls, the last date for filing nominations for Srinagar Parliamentary seat is March 21, scrutiny of nomination papers will be on March 22, while as last date to withdraw candidature is March 24. Polling for the seat will be held on April 9 and counting of votes will be held on April 15, 2017.
