8.2 per cent votes were polled till 12 pm on Tuesday in Anantnag during the third phase of Lok Sabha elections, said an official.

The highest votes were cast in Pahalgam 11156 (12.9%), followed by Kokernag 11603 (12.04%) Dooru was at 9256 (11.8%), 8382 (9.5%) votes were cast in Shangus, main town Anantnag registered 1560 (1.8%) votes and the lowest turnout was witnessed in Bijbehara 1108  (1.2%) till 12: 00 pm. The overall percentage was 8.2 per cent.

The polling began at 7 a.m. and will end at 4 pm for the Anantnag Lok Sabha seat.

Witness said that the heavy deployment of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and state police has been made to secure the polling stations and provide safety to the voters.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown is being observed across the valley following a Joint Resistance Leadership JRL call against the “ill-treatment meted out to JKLF chief Mohammad Yasin Malik who is lodged at Tihar jail in Delhi.
