Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani Thursday termed the army’s decision to hand life sentence to seven of its personnel, including two officers, in Machil fake encounter case of 2010 as an election stunt.

Talking to KNS Geelani said. “It is an election stunt. They (Government of India) want to appease voters. There are hundreds of such cases (Maachil like) which have happened in Kashmir in last 25 years. Giving punishment to accused in one case won’t do justice with Kashmiris.”

“Justice with Kashmiris will when India will give right to self determination to Kashmiris and end its occupation of Jammu and Kashmir,” he told KNS.

Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Omar Farooq while reacting over the decision said, “Though it is a welcome step, it shouldn’t be an election stunt. There are bigger massacres which have happened in Kashmir and justice should be delivered in those cases. Let New Delhi revoke draconian laws under the garb of which Indian Army is killing innocents in Kashmir,” he told KNS.

“Now if Army has taken a decision in one fake encounter case they should make the verdict transparent and people should come to know whether the accused have been really punished or not,” he added.
